The flavor is fuller than the aroma suggests, but it still doesnt live up to the anticipation suggested by the label ALE BREWED WITH MIDNIGHT WHEAT, CHOCOLATE MALT, CHILI AND SPICE however, that shouldnt really come into play if were just looking at the beer for what it is. The wheat malt is clearly present, as is the chocolate malt, although both are restrained theres malt to it, but its not really malty, and its just lightly sweet with a flicker of brown sugar and toffee. With that said, theres not much room to really do anything with the chili and the spice as they can only get to a minor level before they would start to overwhelm. You will find the chili though, probably at the back of your throat, and youll know that the spices are there too (what exactly they are isnt clear). This could have been something big, bold, and bombastic but its been done as a really refined and fairly easy to drink beer that ends up losing all of the points its earned for complexity to its basic drabness. Beyond that, it is 6.0% by volume which gives it a little something, but it never really satisfies in terms of maltiness.
