Monks Revenge is much heavier and more flavorful on the palate than it was in the aroma. Sweet molasses and sugary fruits are the result of a tripeltype malt bill. Sugary and sweet with a solid foundation of spices; clove, coriander, mint, and a light bubblegum flavor from the yeast. The American hop addition adds a bitter bite to the brew mildly leafy, grassy a raw floral flavor, although the actual hop notes are muted a bit by the large malt structure. Slight rubbing alcohol flavor comes through upon warming, as well. Sweet and bready in the finish with a large dose of carbonation; medium bodied, not quite sticky and not quite dry.They were aiming for a tripel malt bill with an American hopped IPA bill, right? It was a good attempt, and its a tasty beer.
