Product Details

One of the first two beers from Three Taverns, the highly anticipated new brewery in Decatur. They apparently are going to be making beers in the Belgian style, as their first two beers are a Belgian Single and a Belgian style IPA. Both beers are a solid start indeed. This Single Intent pours a dark golden with a somewhat slight head, but nice carbonation. That could just be the growler diminishing the head, though. Nice yeasty banana notes in the nose with some light clove in the background. Quite pleasant. I really like the flavors here not overbearing, but not too delicate either. More notes of yeasty banana, but more restrained and integrated into the other notes of the beer than it was on the nose. There is also a pleasant light waxiness a slight earthy, herbal note, and most intriguingly, a creeping peppery note to the beer like some cracked peppercorns were added maybe even pink peppercorns given the fruitiness of the beer. Maybe thats just me, but thats what I get out of it. Really an excellent effort, and particularly nice to see another lower alcohol option in the summer.

Single Intent

A Belgian-Style Single

Single Intent pays tribute to Belgium’s Trappist breweries, which make a lighter-bodied blonde ale that’s set apart for the monks’ personal consumption and not sold—hence the term Patersbier, meaning “father’s beer.” With a spicy, herbal aroma from French Strisselspalt hops, this crisp and complex ale is too good to keep cloistered.

ABV: 5% | Bitterness: 35 IBUs

Short DescriptionVery floral in taste, I like a lot. Slight peppery alcohol on back end. Sweet banana doughy taste too.
