Why We Love Southern Skipper, Our White IPA
Over the past few years, the Pontoon Crew has been busy brewing many varieties of wheat-based IPAs, also known as the White IPA. Don’t get us wrong, we love the West Coast, kick you in the teeth American IPAs. But we always thought a smooth White IPA is the beer of choice for the Pontoon Lifestyle!
White IPA’s are being brewed by a few breweries, and most of them have a very common Belgium wit characteristic due to the ester producing Belgium yeast. Though we love that brew, we thought it would be interesting to take the wheat-based concept and add some American muscle. With a grain bill consisting of American wheat, 2-Row, Aromatic, and Honey malt, we added a ton of American-grown Centennial hops and a very clean American Ale yeast. Then we dryhopped with a second boatload of Centennial hops to create this awesome beer we call Southern Skipper. In our opinion, the beer is nirvana. The wheat adds a smooth sweetness that brings out the grapefruit phenomenally. The brew has a beautiful amber color and rich aromatics. It’s complex, yet grounded and exceptionally drinkable. We love it and we think you will too!
